Q: How would you describe your experience as an IPS learner?
A: I remember something about every single year I was in IPS. I remember classrooms, playgrounds, teacher assemblies to name a few. That was the magic of IPS every moment was memorable. I have only fond memories of my primary school years
Q: What were some of your most meaningful experiences at IPS?
A: My dad passed away when I was in std 1 (1991). Mr de Wet, the principal at the time took me into the garden of remembrance and spoke to me about my loss. He told me anytime I felt sad I could come into the garden. I will never forget his kindness. I also remember his big gold principle award stickers 😊
The whole school went onto the field on world peace day and made the shape of a dove and they took an aerial photo – it was amazing.
The big walk – what fun. Running around the school and the oval to raise money for every lap. Was so much fun
A: I took part in most things. 😊
A: Pediatrician
Q: How did the school or school experiences prepare you for your career?
A: I had amazing teachers at IPS. Truthfully I can remember every single one. I always felt encouraged to achieve but also supported if I failed. I think teaching us to reach for goals was valuable in helping me prepare for my career. I also left primary school with a very confident sense of self which stood me in good stead for everything that followed after.
A: I was very active in most sports (athletics, netball, hockey, tennis, and swimming). Took part in school plays and dance recitals. Taking part in sport teaches you about teamwork as well as time management. All very important life skills
Q: 2021 marks Irene Primary’s 120th birthday. What is your message to the school?
A: Irene primary school will forever be in my heart. The school cared about its pupils and truly made us all feel special. That is a remarkable legacy. May the school continue to live in the hearts of its pupils and past pupils forever.
